Jannus is working to ensure a complete count in the 2020 Census

Shape your future and the future of Idaho! Join Jannus, Inc. in ensuring a complete and accurate census count in 2020. Learn more about why your answers matter by watching this short video. 

Jannus is ideally situated to organize, inform, activate, and assist people in historically undercounted communities in participating in the 2020 Census.  With help from the Idaho Community Foundation, Jannus is engaging with partners across Idaho to ensure that hard-to-count populations such as refugees, English language learners, children under five, people of color, and low-income families are accurately counted in the 2020 Census.  A complete count ensures that vital public services related to health care, education, housing, food assistance, and so much more are adequately funded in Idaho over the next ten years. 

Here is a snapshot of some of the census–related activities that Jannus is engaging in: 

English Language Center | Idaho Office for Refugees

  • Assistance completing forms, including interpreters and tutors, integrated into higher education classes for multi-lingual students, including ESL classrooms; the senior/SHINE class; Boise and Twin Falls core ELT classes and computer lab; and first year writing classes 
  • Assistance completing forms, including interpreters and tutors, integrated into International Rescue Committee and Agency for New Americans for employed clients not in ELT classes 
  • In partnership with Boise State University and the College of Western Idaho, conduct education classes for multi-lingual students, including ESL classrooms; the senior/SHINE class; Boise and Twin Falls core ELT classes and computer lab; and first year writing classes 
  • Conduct education presentations at International Rescue Committee and Agency for New Americans for employed clients not in ELT classes and at Cultural Orientations 

Jannus Economic Opportunity

  • Conduct open computer labs, particularly for refugee and immigrant mothers and interpreters that are community gatekeepers, to educate on how to access and complete the census 
  • Conduct one-on-one assistance with emergency loan clients, all of whom are low-income and experience one or more hard to count demographic characteristic 
  • Conduct education presentations at ethnic and minority owned businesses with leave-behind materials in pertinent language groups 
  • Provide refugee childcare providers, who have access to hundreds of low-income, highly mobile, and young children, with in-depth coaching and supports on the census so they can advocate to families in their care 
  • Host a Census Day event on 4/1/20 at Jannus, which will include computer lab, translators, and staff equipped to explain the importance of the decennial census

  • Participate in the state’s Complete Count Committee, ensure census efforts target communities most at risk of being missed, assist with the development of a statewide outreach plan, and ensure appropriate material is integrated into outreach plan 
  • Lead information sessions with all direct-service staff at Jannus to generate buy-in and understanding as to the importance of a complete count 
  • Distribute outreach material to statewide partners and networks, including child care providers, schools, libraries, faith groups, cities and counties, and health care providers
